Different types of Massage

Whether you just want to relax and unwind, or have a specific issue that we can help you with, you have come to the right place.

All our massages are charged by the time, whether you do 30, 60 or 90 minutes (except for cupping and Medi-Cupping)

You may have noticed that different massage styles are popular at different times. And you may have wondered whether each was just part of a passing fad or the latest, greatest massage technique? Even more important is how can you tell whether the latest style will actually help you?

Styles used in massage therapy range from long, smooth strokes to short, percussive strokes.  Our facility is not a spa.  We specialize in therapeutic massages to help those who have medical related issues or injuries that need massage and muscle manipulation to help them on the road to recovery.

Massage is great for post surgery recovery.  Read the pdf from the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) regarding a study of massage and post surgery recovery.  (click here)

Sorry, but our facility is not set up to do couples massages.

What is a Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is the systematic manipulation of soft tissue structures of the body.  As an integral part of modern healthcare, therapeutic massage is widely prescribed to prevent and alleviate pain, muscle spasm and other discomforts caused by injury or activities of daily living.  Therapeutic massage  reduces stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system and, as a result, increases the body’s ability to manage stress, anxiety, and illness.

What is a Relaxing Massage

These days there is little time for just chilling out and relaxing.  Maybe you had a bad day at work, were stuck in traffic, or just worked extra hard in the yard or around the house.  Whatever the reason, getting a massage can help you manage that stress and help you unwind from the day.  With more time spent trying to keep up with everything we have a tendency to forget about keeping up with our health.  Isn't it time to treat yourself and alleviate the stresses of the day with a relaxing massage.

I had Dennis work my shoulder last Saturday as my rotator cuff has been causing me a lot of pain, restricting my range of motion and ability to lift weights. After he performed his magic, I could tell Immediately that the pinch was gone and my shoulder moved more freely. I was able to work out today with no pain and had one of the best work outs in several weeks. I just wanted to say a big Thank You to Dennis and that he will be a regular part of my therapy to remain healthy. Thank you again Dennis!

Deep Tissue Massage, as its name indicates, it is the application of slow, muscle-specific strokes that target deep structures of the body.  Certified therapists use Deep Tissue massage to isolate and relieve pain which reduces excess tension.

Sports Massage encompasses a wide variety of targeted strokes.  When applied by an expert massage therapist, these strokes reduce muscle fatigue and recovery time by eliminating lactic acid buildup and encourages oxygen and blood flow to muscle fibers.  Trained, certified therapists manipulate soft tissue to increase range of motion and enhance muscle endurance, both of which aid in preventing injury.

Swedish Massage is a gentle, rhythmic massage administered to relax soft body tissue and facilitate   healing.  It is lighter in touch than other forms of massage and when skillfully applied by a licensed massage therapist, can loosen stiff joints, reduce muscle tension, and help clear nasal or chest congestion.  Swedish Massage is widely prescribed by physicians to enhance treatment for insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

Trigger Point Therapy targets specific, hyper-irritable spots in the muscle belly.  Trigger Point therapists are trained to isolate and treat taut banks within a muscle that might refer pain to other parts of the body.  Trigger Point therapy is highly effective in treating chronic pain and alleviating muscle spasms.

Russian Massage is mainly a Neuromuscular massage which uses Trigger point, Swedish, stretching, and ROM (Range of motion techniques for joints). Russian has one truly unique feature called “nerve confusion” The therapist will transfer heat or use vigorous friction to create heat to confuse the nerves.

Russian medical massages treat all areas of the body. The main purpose is to reduce tension in the muscles. It also works to improve the circulation in the body. This can impact a patient's ability to breathe, digest, and heal properly.

Many patients experience an increased range of motion and metabolism after therapy, as well as decreased muscle fatigue. Russian medical massage may occur in combination with other medical practices to heal a specific disease, condition, or injury.

Russian medical massage includes range of motion exercises that are uncommon in other massage techniques. These practices target unused areas of the body and are similar to the stretching practices in yoga.

Most distinctively, Russian medical massage involves a slapping technique known as "percussion,” which loosens muscular adhesions.

Lymphatic Massage:  The main function of the lymphatic system is detoxification, but it also plays an important role in immunity. Lymph is an extracellular fluid that enters the lymphatic vessels and is mixed with cellular elements. The lymphatic system starts at the lymphatic sacs in the extracellular spaces. These sacs have pores, allowing the passage of large proteins and other metabolic waste products. When the lymphatic sacs are filled, lymph enters the lymphatic vessels. Our specially trained therapist will use the techniques learned to help the lymph system get rid of these toxins.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage [MLD]: A unique, more advanced technique, that uses a gentle type of skin massage technique that promotes lymph to drain out of a limb into an area that drains normally. It is mainly used for lymphedema.   In addition to improving lymphatic circulation, MLD also increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins.  (CLICK HERE TO READ MORE)

Gua Sha: Is a healing technique used in Asia. It involves palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument; that results in the appearance of small red petechiae called 'sha', that will fade in 2 to 3 days.  Raising Sha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic, promoting normal circulation and metabolic processes.   (CLICK HERE TO READ MORE)

Medi-Cupping™: One of the most amazing aspects of this technique is the “separation” that the vacuum produces in tissue layers. This enables water absorption and renewed blood flow to undernourished and dehydrated tissue as well as the elimination of old waste and congestion.

Along with the substantial health benefits of clearing old debris, the use of suction is invaluable in releasing soft tissue, scars and restricted fascia. Sports professionals are benefiting from the ease of recovery from injury or surgery and an increase in athletic performance, and major league sports teams are utilizing the therapy.

The therapy works by placing cups made of glass on the skin to create suction. The suction thus created helps mobilize blood flow in the body and boosts the healing of a number of medical conditions.

Cupping:  Is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage
